Iyanya’s rise to fame came after he won the first
edition of MTN Project Fame back in 2008. Ever since
then the talented singer hasn’t look back as he kept
pursuing his music career until he eventually became a
house hold name in the industry.
The University of Calabar graduate started out as a
karaoke singer at a local bar he managed in Calabar
but destiny changed his fate to becoming a super star
after the release of his first Afrobeat single “Kukere “.
Iyanya has been doing R&B music after he won the
Project Fame competition but he was compelled to try
something else when R&B wasn’t bringing food to the
table. With the help of his former producer DTunes he
released his biggest song till date “Kukere” and went
on to release other great Afrobeat songs like “Ur
Waist “, “ Le Kwa Ukwu “, “Sexy Mama ” and “ Flavour“.
From dropping hits back to back Iyanya went to being
stagnant in his music career with little or no single hit
from him for the past 3 years now. His career nose-
dived from headlining all the biggest shows to
struggling to even get called up for major shows and
events in the country and outside the country. Iyanya
once used to be the poster boy with everyone wanting
to have him headline their shows but today he is a
shadow of his former self. His last album Applaudize
was a flop which gave signs of his declining music
career.
His troubles started when he began to have issues
with his business partner Ubi Franklin , co-owner of
Triple MG over finances and a lot of other key
decisions on the running of the label. This affected his
career and his music suffered badly for it. He hasn’t
found his feet ever since then even after officially
leaving his own record label Triple MG he co-owns with
Ubi Franklin. This year the singer has tried a different
approach to getting his groove back and becoming the
artiste he once used to be. He has decided to reverse
to his R&B root and has released two songs titled
“ Type of Woman ” and “Heartbeat” which are all R&B
love songs but it still hasn’t ignited as he planned it
would.
Iyanya has used up all his options to get back to the
music scene but all his effort has proved abortive. His
last resort was signing to Mavin Records owned by the
business mogul and talented producer, Don Jazzy . Don
Jazzy is known for discovering new talents and
refining them into world class superstars.
He has
made a lot of stars in the industry like D’Banj, Wande
Coal, Tiwa Savage, Korede Bello, Reekado Banks and
Di’ja. His magic touch on his artiste songs always have
a way of turning them into a hit. He recently just
released a new song “ Up To Something ” featuring Don
Jazzy and Dr Sid as his first official single under Mavin
Records.
Could Iyanya ‘s dwindling career be revived by the
magic touch of Don Jazzy? If there is anyone right now
who can bring back Iyanya’s glory days back to life
again it’s got to be Don Jazzy. He has done it before
for other artistes and he can do it again for Iyanya.
Iyanya is a versatile talented artiste and performer who
can make a comeback with the Mavins if he follows
Don Jazzy instructions to the letter.
What’s your talk on the topic, do you think Don Jazzy
can revive Iyanya’s dwindling music career? Share your
