Facts about the newly appointed DG of National Intelligence Agency - Femi Adesina sets the record straight

Femi Adesina, the special adviser to the President on media and publicity has come out to set the record straight about the newly appointed DG of NIA, Ahmed Abubakar.

According to him, a lot of half-truths, misinformation, and outright falsehood have attended the announcement of a new Director-General for the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), in the person of Mr Ahmed Rufai Abubakar .

Some of such unfounded stories include that Abubakar had retired from the services of NIA as an Assistant Director, because he failed promotion examinations twice, and had to quit, willy-nilly. 

Others claim he is married to a Moroccan, and so cannot hold such sensitive security position, while others say he was born and bred in Chad, andhe holds dual nationality. 

All these have been widely disseminated on the social, and some mainstream media. With the formal assumption of office by Mr Abubakar, it is now necessary to set the facts straight.

The new NIA DG retired from Foreign Service as Deputy Director (not Assistant Director) and three times during his career, had won Merit Award for competence and meritorious service. Failingpromotion examination can onlyexist in the fecund minds of fiction writers.

 His last position before the new appointment was as Senior Special Assistant to the President on Foreign Affairs/International Affairs where again he quietly proved himself.

Abubakar's parents hailed fromKatsina State, and had settled in Chad at a point in their lifetime. The new DG did his primary school in Ndjamena (then Fort-Lamy), but returned to Nigeria for his secondary and University education. 

He never at any time held Chadian nationality.Mr Abubakar's only wife hails from Katsina State, indeed, from the same community as the husband.

 The story of beingmarried to a Moroccan can onlybe tale by moonlight, concocted by people who love a fib.The President appointed the new DG because he had worked closely with him in the past two years, and sincerely believes that he would add value to the NIA.

The teachers of the top prize winners will be awarded N500,000 (Five hundred thousand naira) whilethose of the first and second runners-up will receive N400,000 (Four hundred thousand naira) and N300,000 (Three hundred thousandnaira) respectively.Mr Anders also mentioned that the company is launching the Cowbellpedia Compendium, which is a compilation of solved questions from the past Cowbellpedia Secondary School Mathematics TV Quiz Show editions for each category. 

This is to improve proficiency of students in Mathematics.In rounding up the event, the Marketing Manager, Promasidor Nigeria: Mr. Abiodun Ayodeji announced that the first stage examination will be coming up on Saturday, February 17, 2018 while registration closes on February 11, 2018.Mr Abiodun mentioned that Registration is FREE and strictly online.

 It is open to full-time students in JSS 3 and SSS 2 from 10to 18 years of age in public and private schools in Nigeria. 

He also reiterated the company’s stand on encouraging girl child education andappealed to mixed secondary schools to nominate minimum of two (2) girls for each category.

Burna Boy thrilled a select few press and media, his close friends and family to an exclusive first listen of his forth coming album “Outside” in a private party at WéRé House in Lekki, Lagos.

The album is set to be releasedon all digital music platforms on the 26th of January under Atlantic Records.

Burna Boy said every song on the album was inspired by something in his life, revealing “Where I’m From” as his favorite and mostpersonal song.

In attendance was Burna Boy’s Grandfather, Benson Idonije, as well as his mother and sister.

Breaking: Gunmen abduct 2 children of House of Reps member in Zamfara, kill 3 residents

<b>The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) in Zamfara have confirmed the abduction of two children of YahayaChado, the member representing Maradun/Bakura federal constituency at the House of Representatives.</b>


The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the police spokesperson in the state, DSP Mohammed Shehu, said in Gusau on Monday, January 22, that the children were abducted after the gunmen invaded the lawmaker’s home at Gora in Maradun Local Government Area.

The report quoted Shehu as saying three persons were killed and four others wounded during the attack at about 1am.

The report further quoted one of the villagers, Kabiru Mai-Kwashe, assaying that the abductors came on 20 motorcycles, with each motorcycle conveying two armed persons.“They shot sporadically in the air before going to the house of their victims.

“The gunmen forcefully took away the two victims, Muhammad Yahaya, 27, and his elder brother, Junaidu Yahaya, who is about 35 years old,”he said.

He said after the gunmen left the house, they also shot and killed six persons and wounded four others.

Mai-Kwashe reportedly said one of those abducted later returned with a telephone number for possible contact if the lawmaker"wants to see his eldest son again.

”It was learnt that the abductors demanded for a ransom of N10 million before they would release the victim, but the police spokesperson said a combined team of officers and military personnel had been deployed to conduct extensive search for the gunmen and rescue the victim.


GISTMENAIJA.com learnt that hose killed and wounded during the attack were taken to Maradun General Hospital.
