Zimbabwe’s first ladyGrace Mugabehas told South African officials that she hit 20-year-oldGabriella Engelswith an extension cord in an act of self-defence.
Mugabe claims she was in fact the victim in the attack that happened last Sunday in a flat in Sandton. This allegedly took place in the presence of numerous body guards.
This is according to highly-placed sources privy to the case.
“Mugabe is adamant on the issue of protecting herself because she feels she was attacked.
She says she was attacked by the victim and that she also has her own injuries which she is not going to publish in the media,” said one source.
The assault, which happened last Sunday has Zimbabwean and South African officials scurrying behind the scenes to try to defuse what has become an embarrassing international incidentthat has brought the diplomatic relations between the two neighbours under intense scrutiny.
Engels claims Mugabe assaulted her after she found her with her sons, Robert jr and Chatunga Bellarmine.
“People are not talking about the fact she did the same to her kids. She beats her kids too,” the source said.
Engels received cuts and bruises and had to crawl out of the room to escape, she claimed. She said that Mugabe’s bodyguards stood by and watched.
Since the attack, civil rights organisation AfriForum, has decided to represent Engels and the “Bulldog” advocate Gerrie Nel has taken thecase and is hoping to get the Zimbabwean first lady in the dock, despite government’s fears of diplomatic fallout.
When asked why Mugabe didn’t open a police case against Engels, the official said that Mugabe didn’t see it that way. The official explained how the incident had placed the SAPS in a predicament.
“Yes, clearly it was a difficult situation, a predicament because it was a high-profile matter and all the things came colliding.
It was a madhouse, and we had to ensure we don’t break the international law on how to treat important delegates. In cases like this, you want to collect all the information from all sides.
”The first lady is apparently still holed-up in South Africa and is waiting for the Department of International Relations and Co-operation (Dirco) to issue her diplomatic immunity.
Then she can leave. If this happens, this will be the second time that Mugabe has used this legal loophole to escape prosecution. In 2009, she was given diplomatic immunity by the Chinese after she allegedly assaulted a journalist in Hong Kong.

If you have been lucky enough to escape the frustrations of a bank, let me be the first to say you are a very lucky fellow.I cannot understand why banks find it so “sweet” and easy to take one’s money, but when it is time for this money to be withdrawn/collected, it becomes an issue.I witnessed a scene my first time in Akure.
We were all on a very long queue to use the ATM. Everyone was bored and tired of standing when suddenly, we heard the loud screech of a car and a middle aged woman jumped out of her car andraced into the bank, hurling insults at an invisibleentity whom nobody knew.We were curious. “Wetin happen.
Who dey quarrel her?” One man was bold enough to ask outloud.
For a few minutes we were kept in suspense, our ears watering in advance for the hot news we knew might eventually get to us.Fortunately, a few minutes later, a young woman who had been in the banking hall finished her transaction and walked out.Again, the same man quickly stopped her as she made her way out of the gate when he asked:
“Sister, why the woman dey shout inside the bank? Wetin happen?
”As if she had been waiting to be asked, the woman launched into a tirade. One would have thought she was the offended party.
She told us that the woman’s son lay in a critical position in the hospital and money was needed urgently before he could be treated but the bank had suspended her account, giving senseless excuses. She added that the woman had visited the bank several times, but they had refused to sort out her issues . This was why the woman had stormed the bank – refusing to leave until she got her money.
Of course, many people had something to say.
One person remembered how her money been deducted unduly and how it had taken months for it to be refunded. Another man told the story of his brother who had experienced the same thing.“Good for this bank people. That woman obviously didn’t come here to play. Dem don enteram.
” One man said laughing out so loud.Over the years, I have also had very terrible encounters with banks. At some point I swore that I would build a wooden box and use it as my ownvault just to avoid bank troubles. That is how it is with most people; banks have become thorns in people’s fleshes.
When your money is about to be swallowed by them, they are all smiles but the moment you want your money, they bring up rules and reasons why your money can’t be given you.
Most times, clients are never told of these rules until the problems start.I remember when a particular bank tried to force me to apply for an ATM card.
I refused, but tomy greatest surprise, they went ahead to make a card for me, deducting my money. I was so mad I visited the bank to give them a piece of my mind but after everything, the money couldn’t be refunded as the card was already made in my name.
However, I do not blame these bank workers. After all, they act on the orders of their superiors. It is the day a person loses his or her life because a bank had withheld money meant for something critical that banks would learn.Has a bank ever held your money unduly? Pleaseshare your experience in the comment section.

Are they suppose to be selling food to the gym-goer?
Most people have been victims of hurt and betrayal inflicted by fake friends; and if we are honest, some of us have been fake friends too. Here are some factors that make us victims of fake friends.
The person became a friend too fastYou meet someone and in two hours decide you’re best friends? My dear, good things take time.
The friendship is based on a shallow or negative bond
Did you guys become friends because your boyfriends are close or you’re the happening crew? While these are good things, there has to be deeper bonds to a friendship. You haveto know that you can show up rolled in mud and they’d hold your hand.Did you guys become friends because you gossiped together or are bullies/trolls,etc? There is no honor among thieves. I had a friend who gossiped about a mutual friend of ours the very day we hung out together. She told me ‘I prefer your type of people because you are well trained; not like x that is a user’. I made a mental note that day to keep her at arm’s length. Three years down the line, I was the subject of her gossip withthat same X that she said didn’t have hometraining. She knew nothing about me, so she had to make up a theory in her head that I was jealous of her.
This person uses others
Some people do not have the ability to make friends, they just use and manipulate people.Make friends with that person at your own peril.
There is silent competition
If we are honest with ourselves, we know whena little competition is brewing, that’s the timeto create some distance and love from afar, so that you and the person don’t hurt each other. You are a user/troll/queen beeSome of us, especially those with esteem issues, put others down and create some sort of clique. What then happens is that for others to survive socially, they pretend to be your friend and care about you. When you put them down, they laugh about it, even though they are hurt. They do anything to bein your good books. The challenge with being this kind of person is that strong, emotionally healthy people see through you and want nothing to do with you. They stay out of your way, thus you attract your type, or weak and shallow people. The day you needhelp, you realise that all your friends are gone; they were never your friends. They simply needed to survive. In fact, some of them might kick you when you are down.
You are not emotionally healthy
When you are healthy, you can see through negativity; if you don’t do that early, you can’t walk away. Authenticity is not being afraid to walk alone. You don’t understand seasonsLife comes in seasons and you must also be ready to embrace it. If the time set for a friendship has elapsed and you force it, hurtbegins to set in.
You don’t appreciate independence and forgiveness
Your friend is not an extension of you. When you over involve yourself in your friends’ lives, they could hurt you in a bid toregain their independence. Forgiveness is also important. Peter was a friend of Jesus who denied him, because he was afraid. Weneed to allow our friends be themselves, accept their shortcomings and forgive honest mistakes. They were never your friendsI’m not saying they were fake friends, I’m saying they never even considered you a friend. They were just being polite. Most people know what they want, and decide if they want to be friends with you. Sometimes, someone views us as a colleagues/neighbours, and we view them as best friends; that’s wherethe hurt comes.
Life happens
Actually sh**t happens. While we try to protect ourselves, life still happens even to thewisest of us.Remember, he that must have friends, must himself be a friend. If you get hurt, learn, forgive yourself and move on.
Feeding the body with some foods will keep your body and immune system strong – the body will be resistant to some diseases (of course not all). There are also foods out there that are capable of healing flu or a mild form of cold. It is notdifficult- when keeping the body healthy becomesa top priority, going to the grocery should not be abig deal.
Citrus Fruits
Many people find themselves in the succor of Vitamin C especially the whites when they catch acold. This is because it helps to build up the immune system. Vitamin C is believed to increase the number of white blood cells. Daily Vitamin C is essential for good health. It is easy to add a sq££ze of this Vitamin to any meal plan. Citrus is the key to fighting infections and diseases. Examples of citrus fruits include grapefruit, oranges, tangerines, lemons, limes.
Red Bell peppers
Commonly known to Nigerians as tatase, gram redbell peppers contain two times vitamin C as citrus. They are also a rich source of beta carotene. Besides improving the immune system, vitamin C helps to maintain healthy skin. Beta carotene is good for the eyes and skin also.
Garlic
Garlic is used in almost every part of the world. It adds a little zest to foods. It is a must-have for the health. Early civilizations around the globe especially in Egypt and Greece discovered its use in fighting infections. Garlic also helps to lower blood pressure and halts hardening of thearteries. Garlic’s immune-boosting properties are evident in sulphur-containing compounds such as allicin.

One can sweeten plain yoghurts with healthy fruits instead. Yoghurt is a great source of Vitamin D. So, when picking yoghurts, it is advisable to get for the ones fortified with Vitamin D. Vitamin D helps regulate the immune system and boosts the body’s natural defenses against diseases.

Chicken
Chicken peppersoup is good for eating when cold appears. It will stop further complications that ensue. Chicken and turkey are high in vitamin B-6. It is also vital to the production of red blood cells. Boiled chicken bones contain gelatin, chondroitin and other nutrients that help abdominal healing and increases immunity.
