A 50-year-old man, Joseph Sunday, has been arrested
by the Ogun State Police Command for allegedly
defiling a 13-year -old girl in Ilaro town of the state.
Sunday allegedly ambushed the girl on her way to
fetch water and dragged her into an uncompleted
building where he reportedly had carnal knowledge of
her.
The state Acting Police Public Relations Officer
(PPRO), Abimbola Oyeyemi, confirmed the incident in
a statement issued in Abeokuta yesterday. According
to Oyeyemi, the incident happened at Abule Taju area
of Ilaro.
Following a complaint from the girls’ mother, the
suspect was arrested. He reportedly confessed to the
crime upon interrogation.
The state Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu, has
ordered the immediate transfer of the case to the
Anti-Human Trafficking and Child Labour unit of the
state Criminal Investigation and Intelligence
Department (CIID) for further investigation.
