NUC Approves University Of Africa For Bayelsa As 43rd State University

The National University Commission (NUC) has approved the University of Africa as the 43rd state university in the country.

The National University Commission (NUC) has approved the University of Africa as the 43rd state university in the country.

Its approval followed the formal presentation of the relevant gazette law, academic brief and physical masterplan as well as the satisfactory report of the advisory resource assessment visit by the commission.

The University of Africa is an initiative of the Bayelsa State Government, which will, however, run as a Public Private Partnership (PPP), since the state government will only provide the enabling environment, while the financing would come from the private sector.

Giving the nod, through a letter dated 28 of July 2016, the Executive Secretary of the commission, Professor Julius Okojie, while congratulating the state government, noted that, the establishment of the university took effect from the 28th of July, having complied with the basic requirements.

According to Okojie, the University of Africa is also the 143rd in the Nigerian university system.

In a statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the Bayelsa State Governor, Daniel Iworiso-Markson, yesterday and made available to the press, Governor Seriake Dickson had led a delegation of top government officials to the office of the commission in Abuja  and were received by executive secretary, who briefed the governor on the latest development  and the approval of the university.

The statement disclosed that, Okojie handed over the letter of approval to Dickson during the visit, as he also commended him for the initiative.

In his remarks, Dickson, while thanking the NUC Executive Secretary for the warm reception accorded him and his team, explained that, the University of Africa, Toru-Orua was conceived as a public private partnership and it is designed as a first rate institution of learning that will also attract some of the best teachers from Africa and the world.

He said the university will be funded by its partners and the government would only provide the enabling environment  for its establishment.

The Bayelsa State Chief Executive said, there is need for more private universities to be established and they must be fee paying, pointing out that, it is the only way to make funding of  tertiary institutions viable and sustainable.

His words “I am here leading this small delegation to present to you these laws passed by the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, establishing a new university that we want to bring about working with the private sector. It will be run on a PPP basis.

It is a University unlike the existing one, it will not be directly funded by the state. Our belief is that moving forward for a university to be sustainable, we must create room for private sector participation and involvement.

The University of Africa, Toru-Orua, is the first of its kind in this country, that is established by government with private sector involvement and it will be strictly a fee paying tertiary institution that will attract students from across the continent and the globe. It will be the model as we encourage more private universities in the country”

Top 5 Medical Universities in Nigeria (Must Read)

Check out the best Medical School in Nigeria now!

The Latest ranking of the best medical schools in Nigeria has recently been published. The list contain as expected the best universities in Nigeria.

Check out the list below:

5. University of Lagos

Popular medical school in Nigeria. Founded in 1962, University of Lagos (or Unilag) desired to prepare professionals for our newly independent Nigeria. With a focus on research, teaching staff published more than 1,700 articles, with the majority of the publications coming out of a few medical, scientific and engineering faculties. The University has recently become one of the seven institutions that received research grant share of the $ 1.2 million presented by the Lagos State Authorities. A huge part of it is going to financing and improving the medical school.

4. Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria (ABU)

Ahmadu Bello University is extremely well-known for having devoted lecturers, real, adequate facilities and standard structures, which make it one of top 5 places to study different critical courses like, for example, Medicine. People usually do not want to go to North, but if you do, I bet, ABU has no competitor in Northern Nigeria, when it comes to any medical studies.

3. University of Ilorin

One of the best places in Nigeria to study medicine is University of Ilorin is because they have in general everything you need, and what is more interesting, they do not go on strike. So there is very near absolute concentration in the Nigerian education system there.

2. Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU)

OAU has a well-known medical college where plenty of critical diseases have been extremely successfully taken care of. It really makes sure the point of view that this is a great place to get appointed as a promising doctor in Nigeria.

1. Best medical school in Nigeria – University of Ibadan (UI)

At this moment, UI is yet in the list of top Nigerian schools to study medicine. This university is considered the best in Africa, as well as compared to a lot of other non-African countries. University of Ibadan has a close relationship with international institutions, including the Feinberg School of Northwestern University of Medicine in the USA, which sends its medical students to our UI’s teaching hospital. The main problem here is that a person needs to study and work extremely hard to make it to the list of admission, as there is often untold competition. Nigerian medical school is a great choice for everyone.

Was your take on this? Do you think that the University of Ibadan deserves the number spot or not? Share your comments below

WAEC: States Indebted To WAEC May Not Get 2015 WASSCE Results

States indebted to WAEC may not get 2015 WASSCE Results – Head of WAEC National Office.

Over 19 States are yet to settle the WAEC’s registration fees. The Head of the Council, Dr. Charles Eguridu said this at a briefing in Lagos.

Eguridu said many states in Nigeria paid registration fees of candidates, particularly in their public schools, for the West Africa Senior School Certificate Examination.

He said this had afforded many indigent students the opportunity to sit for the examinations as well as relieved many poor parents of the financial burden.
The official said, however, that such obviously good gesture had come at a price to the council.
He said: “As I speak to you now, we are cash-strapped as a result of the delay in offsetting the registration fees owed the council by some states.

“A total of 19 states are indebted to the council to the tune of over N4 billion in respect of entry fees for state government-sponsored candidates for the May/June 2015 WASSCE.
“Some states are also still indebted to WAEC in respect of registration fees for the 2014 May/June diet of the same examination.

“We have written to the affected state governments without response and the poor response of these debtor states is threatening the smooth operations of the council.
“We, therefore, want to publicly plead with the affected states to offset the registration fees of their candidates for the May/June 2015 WASSCE, as we cannot guarantee releasing their results alongside others in a few weeks’ time.”

Mum's boyfriend beats 13 month old baby to death

A first time mum, 22 year old Ronnie Tayler-Morrison
woke up in the middle of the night to her boyfriend, 27
year old Hardeep Hunjan, 27 screaming that her son had
fallen out of his cot.
The child was rushed to the hospital but he could not be
saved.
However, her boyfriend Hardeep Hunjan, has been found
guilty of battering the 13-month-old baby to death during a
drink and drugs binge.  Noah was found dead after
suffering 15 fractures to his body, including a 6in wound
across his skull. According to medical and Police reports,
he beat little Noah Serra-Morrison so severely that his body
looked like a car crash victim.
The sickening assault occurred at the flat where he lived
with the child and his mum at Luton, Bedfordshire.
The jury acquitted Tayler-Morrison of murder but found
her guilty of causing or allowing the death of a child and
cruelty to a person under 16. She told the jury on the night
her son died that she had passed out and came
around after her boyfriend woke her up telling her Noah
had fallen out of his cot.
Hunjan was convicted of cruelty to a person under 16 and
found guilty of murder.
They will be sentenced today after a six-week trial at Luton
Crown Court.

Hilary Clinton makes history as she accepts the Democratic Presidential Nomination

Hillary Clinton accepted the Democratic nomination on
Thursday at the Democratic National Convention in
Philadelphia to run as a US Presidential candidate. Making
history as the first woman to be nominated for Presidency
from a major US political party.
Accepting the nomination, she said:
"I will be a president for Democrats, Republicans,
independents, for the struggling, the striving and the
successful. For those who vote for me and those who
don't."
She said her Republican rival, Donald Trump, was
esupremely unqualified for the White House. She added:
"Imagine him in the Oval Office facing a real crisis,"
she said. "A man you can bait with a tweet is not a
man we can trust with nuclear weapons," she said.
Clinton took the stage to roaring applause from flag-
waving delegates. But her real audience was the millions of
voters who may welcome her experience but question her
character due to the leaked emails released by WikiLeaks.
Inregards to that she said:
"I get it that some people just don't know what to
make of me."
But her primary focus was persuading anxious Americans
to stick with a Democrat for a third term and put aside
their frustration with those who have been entrenched in
the political system.

Nicki Minaj’s brother’s DNA reportedly matches semen found on 12 year old rape victim

old girl he allegedly raped and is currently facing 15 years
in prison after being offered a plea deal in his child rape
case.
Prosecutors offered Maraj 15 years in prison if he pleads
guilty to “predatory sexual assault of a child” which is a
class A-II felony. Nicki's brother, was initially offered a
plea deal for seven years in prison before being indicted
by a grand jury in exchange for pleading guilty to “course
of sexual conduct against a child in the first degree,” but he
rejected the offer.
Remember, Maraj was arrested last December after a 12-
year-old girl accused him that he raped and sodomized
her for eight months.
The Assistant District Attorney Anthony Pirri, told the judge
at a hearing July 26 in Nassau County Supreme Court’s sex
crimes division, that the semen found in the victim’s pants
was consistent to Maraj’s DNA. He said:
"A DNA profile, a partial profile matching the defendant or
consistent with the defendant, your honor, to the point in
the hundreds of billionths of chance of it being any other
individual, was discovered in the…pants of the complainant
in this case, and also tested positive indicating the presence
of semen,”.
He is due back in court in August, but if he rejects the
current deal, the child rape case will start in November.
